Fanlisting?

Here you have the classic bits of info about the band. If you're a huge fan like I am you'll already know all this stuff, but it's nice to have some info about them, anyway. Besides, I'm planning to add more things soon :)

The story

Rammstein was born back in 1994, and Richard (lead guitar) was the one who started everything. He escaped from East Germany in 1989 and somehow ended in West Berlin, where he started a band (Orgasm Death Gimmicks) in 1993. Atfer the wall came down he moved back home to Schwerin, where he started living together with Oliver (Rammstein bassist - then in the Inchtaboktables) and Schneider (drums - then in Die Firma). Richard decided he wanted to try something different than the music he had been playing before, and started working in that new project with his roommates.

They asked Till (singer - then drummer at First Arch) to join them and be their singer, as Richard had listened him sing several times while working and thought he could be good at it. Shortly after the four of them had recorded the first demo of Rammstein and had won a contest with it, Paul (rhythm guitar), who already knew all of them, listened to their music and asked them to join the band. And soon after that, they asked Flake (now Rammstein keyboarder and former bandmate of Paul in the punk band Feeling B) to join them as well, because they realized they needed someone at the keyboards. Flake wasn't really convinced at first, though in the end accepted... even when, in the LAB interview, Paul said they were (back then, in 1998) still waiting for an answer...

The name

Back in 1988, a serious accident took place in the US airbase of the Ramstein town in Germany, during an air show. Several hundred spectators were injured and more than 50 died (about 40 of them almost immediately). A tragedy, that actually inspired the band in their first song, named precisely Rammstein.

They decided to took that name, slightly changing it (adding an 'm')... partly because they wanted to provoke, and also because they thought it suited their music.
